After sex, money is probably the most taboo topic in society.
People don’t talk about money – how much they are making, how much they are keeping.
And for that reason, when the kids turn 18 or 21, they suddenly are supposed to take care of their own money.
I went through the same.
Suddenly, when I am 20, I had the responsibility to take care of my own finances.
And over the years, I studied money-making and money-keeping secrets from industry experts.
If you want to develop daily easy habits to make and keep more money, continue reading… this post is for you.
Habit 1: Say Thank You Every Time Money Goes in or Out of Your Wallet
I learnt this one directly from Mindvalley co-founder, Vishen.
I have been practising this habit for the last 4 months now, and damn! This is magic!
Whenever you pay someone, even for a coffee, or whenever you receive any payment or salary, close your eyes for a moment, and feel gratitude about the money.
When you pay someone, feel grateful about being in a position to offer money to someone.
Because money is definitely a powerful resource. And you are offering gratitude that the universe chose you as a source to send this resource to others.
When you receive any money, feel grateful about receiving the power of helping so many lives with this resource.
Feel grateful that the universe chose to bless you with such a powerful resource.
Disclaimer: This practice is super magical. Beware of feeling ‘too good’ about your money after this.
Habit 2: Budget
Daily or weekly – your choice.
And you don’t have to go for tiniest details… just make sure you have a vague idea of how much you’re making and how much you are spending.
If you have only 1 source of income… well, you shouldn’t. Work on developing more sources of income.
Anyway, if you have only 1 source of income, you would have a pretty good idea about how much you are earning.
And if you’re a self-employed person, with multiple income sources… this kind of becomes a necessity.
On a daily/weekly/monthly basis, you can try tracking your expenses.
I use google sheet for this. You can try a notebook as well.
- Rent ________
- Travel _________
- Hangouts _______
- Groceries ________
- Others _________
Habit 3: Write Your Money Goals
Write money goals for the next 1 month, 3 months, 1 year, 5 years.
Calculate how much you would want to have in your account after 5 years.
Take into account your insurance, any family emergencies, family expenses, any debts you might take, the cars you want to drive.
Repeat this 1 habit every week. This will make you pretty clear with your money goals.
And this activity would be like asking directly from the universe with written words.
Well, if you get clear that I want to make X money by 2025, you will start looking for ways to make it happen for real… otherwise, your dreams will stay dreams.
Writing your goals on paper is the first step of turning your dreams into reality.
Habit 4: Abundance Affirmations
I sometimes listen to this 8-hr audio while sleeping. Try it, it works wonders!
Link – https://youtu.be/f_C8lPqVjOw
The youtube video talks through different affirmations, like-
- I am a money magnet.
- I have the right to be prosperous.
- The universe freely provides for all my needs.
- Abundance and harmony rule my world.
- Money comes to me easily and effortlessly even when I sleep.
- Money flows to me in avalanches of abundance.
- I welcome financial abundance in my life now.
- Wealth is circulating in my life.
And so many more life-altering affirmations.
When we develop an abundance mindset, we start figuring out different ways to make money. Or in other ways, the universe starts giving.
Habit 5: Study Money
This is a no-brainer, right?
Ramit Sethi is one of the best in the industry. I learnt a lot about personal finances from him.
His concept of “define your rich life” totally changed my views.
Ramit Sethi asks you to define your rich life. Get clear about what sparks joy in your life. Spend money on those items without any worry.
Also define all the items that don’t spark joy in your life, and cut back mercilessly on those items.
For me, I spend a lot of money on my books. I LOVE BOOKS. And almost never do I think twice before purchasing a book.
On the other hand, I don’t usually buy a lot of clothes or shoes. Well, well, well.
What do you LOVE spending money on?
Habit 6: Talk to Your Friend
Discuss money. Make it a normal topic of conversation.
There may be elements of jealousy initially, but you need to get past this.
Share what all you know about making and keeping money.
Ask them how do they make and keep their money.
I remember how awkward it was the first time Anangsha Alammyan and I talked about our incomes and income sources.
She talked to me about her wish to earn more from writing. So, we discussed her options.
I noticed a couple of money blocks in her conscious, and I coached her through it.
What’s the result?
5 months later, she is earning thrice the amount from her writing compared to what she was earning when we first talked about this.
That brings me to the next point.
Habit 7: Remove Your Money Blocks
Money blocks are underlying beliefs that hold you back from making the money you want.
Here is a brief differentiation between limiting money beliefs (money blocks) and abundant money beliefs.
Coming from a humbling background, seeing my parents work hard for my education… I always believed it takes a lot of time and effort to earn money.
Over time, when I did a lot of things that come naturally to me, I started getting paid a lot more than what I anticipated.
I love money, but somehow due to the money block “Money takes time and effort”, I wasn’t truly accepting the money that was coming to me.
My coach detected this limiting belief, and we worked on this.
What became my new belief?
“Money comes easily to you when you do what’s natural to you”
You know what’s the toughest part about money blocks?
It’s almost impossible for us to detect our own money blocks. We need help.
We need someone to help us detect our money blocks.
And what do you do if you want to work on your limiting beliefs?
Hire a coach. Ask for help.
You know how to reach me for coaching, right? 😉
